A new chapter for an icon at Dusit Thani Bangkok
Bangkok rarely stands still, yet above Lumpini Park the city seems to exhale. The newly reimagined Dusit Thani Bangkok rises where an icon once stood, preserving its heritage while embracing a quieter, contemporary confidence. Designed by André Fu Studio, the hotel feels distinctly Thai without resorting to nostalgia. Expansive bay windows frame the city’s ever-changing skyline, while warm timber, marble and restrained craftsmanship create interiors that feel composed - a modern interpretation of traditional Thai design. Each morning began in with a morning swim overlooking the shimmering skyline, a morning bite at the club lounge on the 39th floor, before descending into the rhythm of the streets below.
Beyond the hotel, Bangkok reveals itself through contrast. In Songwat, restored shophouses and weathered façades sit comfortably beside a new generation of cafés and galleries, preserving a neighbourhood that feels both lived-in and constantly evolving. Wandering narrow streets, pausing occasionally to capture daily life that unfolds beneath a web of overhead cables.

Bangkok’s culinary scene mirrors the city itself, where heritage is never static. We celebrated at Nusara, a culinary experience that transforms dinner into a procession through space and memory, beginning beside the kitchen before unfolding floor by floor towards views of Wat Pho. Chef Ton’s pays tribute to his grandmother through dishes that feel deeply rooted yet unmistakably contemporary, balancing royal Thai recipes with remarkable restraint and precision. The dinner becomes more than a tasting menu, a meditation on Thai identity told through architecture, hospitality and flavour.
As evening settles, Bangkok transforms into a constellation of light stretching far beyond the Chao Phraya River. We returned to Spire Rooftop Bar for a final nightcap, ascending above the city's relentless rhythm to one of André Fu's favourite spaces within the hotel. Looking across the illuminated skyline, it became clear that the Dusit Thani is more than the reconstruction of a beloved landmark. It is Fu's interpretation of contemporary Thailand; respectful of its heritage yet confidently forward-looking. Like Bangkok itself, the hotel demonstrates that tradition need not be preserved through nostalgia, but through thoughtful reinvention.
